The Importance of International Agreements
It is important to know the rights of indigenous peoples in order to actively demand their protection and safeguard them and to counteract discrimination. Agreements such as the UNDRIP, CAT, ICERD and ILO Convention No. 169 are crucial as they create legal frameworks that guarantee the cultural identity, land rights and social justice of indigenous communities.
